walking down the deer path

facing my own shame

who do i see bathing?

the eternal dame

can she see me coming

down the wooded road?

does she see me watching

her without her robe?

artemis is deadly

with her pack of hounds

will she kill me slowly

on her hunting grounds?

though i may turn to run

i choose to show myself

naked and unarmed

like everybody else

there was once

an angry man

who gave his life

to understand

love

i found another kingdom

with another name

and i met its ruler

the eternal dame

sovereign and able

huntress of the night

placer of the arrow

aiming true and right

find me now

alive at last

in diana’s

beating heart

am clasped

watercolor and india ink on paper, 9"x12"
